Under general supervision, manages the development of production employees, department safety, plant production including quality control, protection of equipment and cost controls. In addition, facilitates employee relations issues including coaching, mentoring and disciplining including performance evaluation of employees. Provides strong leadership to motivate, guide and inspire employees to meet the organization’s business objectives with production. 
  1. Provides day-to-day leadership to ensure products are produced to specifications within target deadlines and yields.
  2. Ensures effective employee relations. Provides employee coaching and development. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  3. Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Works to continuously improve all areas.
  4. Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to Sr. Production Manager.
  5. Builds team with Human Resources Department facilitation in the recruiting, interviewing, selecting including promotions or transfers.
  6. Communicates safety compliance issues or training in order for employees to adhere to facility 5S housekeeping standards, including monitoring compliance issues.  Provides on-going training for compliance to quality system and safety requirements as well as sustains accurate training records.  Accountable to cross-train employees to sustain a flexible workforce for coverage during absences.
  7. Institutes timely corrective actions and interfaces with the Human Resources Department in developing disciplinary actions up to and including terminations.
  8. Administers time-keeping functions to track absenteeism; approves time cards on a bi-weekly basis; investigates employee accidents (1stinitial response).
  9. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration; and five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory role; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Manufacturing knowledge.
  3. Water industry experience, a plus.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently on alternate work shifts, preferred.
The following are desirable: 
  1. Excellent leadership, organization and people skills to motivate, guide, inspire, train, coach, mentor to accomplish departmental objectives. Solid ability to resolve moderate to complex employee relations issues.
  2. Strong knowledge of automated manufacturing methods and understanding of workflow processes.
  3. Persuasive written and verbal communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate with personnel, across organization functional groups and effectively present to groups of people. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manual, work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions as well as writing routine reports and e-mail correspondence.
  4. Basic understanding of mathematical concepts such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and millimeters.
  5. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations and apply common knowledge understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and or diagram form.
  6. Basic to intermediate proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as other enterprise reporting programs such as ADP or JD Edwards.
The following are preferred: 
  1. Supervisory Certificate, desirable.
  1. Sit for 30%-40% of time at a desk doing sedentary reports, research, work with computer and attending meetings; 60% -70% of time interfacing with others on the manufacturing floor.
  2. Must be able to stand/walk frequently up to 6 hours in a day.
  3. Ability to occasionally lift/carry items up to 40 pounds as well as overhead.
  4. Ability to push/pull carts or pallet jacks loaded with raw materials, work in progress and finish goods occasionally up to 3 hours in a day.
  5. Ability to grasp objects with a force up to 50 pounds.
  6. Gross hand manipulation of light-moderate strength is required to grab raw materials.
  7. Fine hand manipulation of light-moderate strength is required to operate valves, dials, buttons and touch screen displays on machines.
  8. Must see/focus for close eye work (small figures), discriminate colors and perceive depths.
  9. Must speak/hear to fulfill verbal communications and respond to machine alarms/buzzers.
  10. Subject to periodic exposures to varying temperatures, occasional exposure to noise levels above 85 decibels, gas/fumes/mists and chemicals or hazardous materials while using personal protective equipment when required.
  11. Must wear safety shoes in required areas.
  12. Must be able to work extended hours per the demands of the business.
