Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm 
 
Position Description:
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant will perform a variety of tasks under general supervision to handle, rig, assemble, clean, preserve, and maintain the overall appearance and functional integrity of interior and exterior elements of all designated GSI buildings and grounds
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Review work order priorities on a daily basis and ensure that they are serviced each day
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing bulbs and repairing doors/windows
  • Ensure that the facility is in a safe condition
  • Ensure that facility grounds and parking lots are clean of debris and garbage
  • Inspect buildings and grounds
Position Requirements:  
  • High School Diploma with vocational trade school or equivalent military training
  • 3+ years of applied experience in building trades, construction, facilities maintenance, or custodial fields
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, masonry, sheet metal, plumbing, and custodial housekeeping practices
  • Knowledge of the safe use of basic trade fasteners and hardware
  • Knowledge of the safe use/care of various trade hand tools, powered hand tools, power extension cords, and portable electric task lighting
  • Knowledge of the safe use of paints, coatings, sealants, water proofing materials, and adhesives for the care and maintenance of interior and exterior building construction
  • Knowledge of the safe use/care of various heavy weight material handling equipment including motorized pallet jack and forklift is preferred
  • Knowledge of the safe use/care of various personal protective equipment including safety glasses, face impact shield, hearing protection, gloves, aprons/coveralls, footware, and head protection
