The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Technician will play a key role in the implementation, operation and maintenance of site-specific environmental and safety initiatives for SpaceX.

Responsibilities:

• Implement and maintain site specific safety policies
o Become familiar with all applicable OSHA and SpaceX specific safety policies
o Take direction from, and support, SpaceX Lead EHS Engineer as directed
o Perform job hazard analysis and PPE analysis
o Support field monitoring of employee exposures to job and chemical hazards.
o Oversee subcontractors in the field to ensure they are following OSHA protocols.
o Work independently to evaluate jobs/tasks performed in the Hangar and at the Pad and recommend appropriate PPE, or task modifications to reduce exposure.
o Monitor worksite and notify Lead EHS Engineer, or Site Director when safety policies are not met by employees
o Oversee Hazardous Operations to ensure procedural requirements are followed.
o Monitors and coordinates employee safety and environmental training programs and works with managers to ensure training is completed.
o Performs safety compliance audits; for example: Fall Protection, Grinder Safety, First Aid Kits, Eye Wash inspections, NFPA Life Safety (Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Lights, Exit Signs), Heavy Equipment Monthly Inspections (Forklift, and Boom lift), Scaffolding daily inspections
o Perform Calibration activities (quarterly) for confined space meters
o Create, as needed, labels and signs to maintain regulatory compliance
o Complete and maintain routine safety logs and reports
o Inventory and coordinate orders for personal protective equipment as needed
• Implement and maintain site specific environmental policies
o Acquire relevant hazardous waste management training, including DOT, CCR, and RCRA
o Performs environmental compliance and due diligence audits for Air, Wastewater, Storm-water, and Hazardous Waste protocols
o Handles all Hazardous Waste generated at Satellite accumulation sites, including labeling, transporting to 90 day area, consolidating when required, and coordinating shipments
o Perform sampling activities for various waste streams (Hazardous, Wastewater, and Stormwater)
o Perform inspections and monitoring required by NPDES and other discharge permits/plans
o Perform Stormwater Construction/Industrial permit inspections and monitoring

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience implementing and overseeing environmental, health and safety disciplines required
• Experience implementing/developing Health and Safety plans and policies required
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water
• Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities, and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
• Ability to work in a construction/industrial environment
• Ability to communicate well with technicians and engineers
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Intermediate skill level working with Windows Operating Systems
• Intermediate skill level working with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

Additional Requirements:

• General physical fitness is required for some work areas
• Ability to move a full drum of waste
• Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments- heat, cold, rain
• Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
• Typically 50 hour work weeks, schedule varies depending on site operational needs, flexibility required
