Our client, a leading radiation oncology company that develops, manufactures and sells innovative tumor solutions is seeking a contract Reliability Engineer to; identify and prioritize design risks, implement and execute plans to mitigate those risks, and quantitatively capture the results of risk mitigation activities.

Specific Duties
Additional responsibilities include flow-down of reliability/reliability-centric and environmental requirements and implementation and execution of plans to ensure satisfaction of those requirements. Specific activities may include component and design analysis; working with suppliers to identify and complete reliability deliverables; test fixture development; test execution; and monitoring, trending, and reporting of development and field unit performance, to enable comparison with desired user experience, system-level performance, and reliability-centric business metrics.  The Reliability Engineer works closely with product development management, systems engineers, and product development engineers to proactively identify and implement solutions to component, design, supplier, production and field related reliability problems. 

Job Responsibilities
Product Development – Reliability
  • Participate in project teams to identify product and reliability requirements; create and execute reliability plans; develop, execute and document reliability tests.
  • Quantify component and subsystem intended and unintended usage, capturing user and service workflows.
  • Work with project teams to resolve reliability risks and/or problems found during analysis and testing.
  • Facilitate hardware DFMEA sessions with project teams, identify design weaknesses, and drive resolution of those weaknesses determined to require resolution by the project team.
  • Develop and execute reliability test plans for release of new products or enhancements to existing products, including, but not limited to, Accelerated Life Tests, Highly Accelerated Life Tests, and Reliability Demonstration Tests, as deemed appropriate.
  • Analyze internal and field data to identify, resolve, and track product reliability problems.
  • Determine estimates of component and subsystem reliability.
  • Confirm proper implementation of de-rating guidelines, Finite Element Analysis, and safety factor application.
  • Participate on project teams in the development of supplied component specification and reliability qualification activities.  Work with development engineers and suppliers to ensure products/components meet or exceed functional requirements over their intended life in their intended environment.
  • Complete project assignments in a timely manner with proper documentation, developing the test and execution as specified with minimum errors, following development process procedures and reporting promptly on progress, plans, and problems in a concise manner.
  • Support managers in establishing and updating project timetables as well as evaluating engineering technologies and tools.
  • Works effectively with other engineers, scientists, subcontractors, and contractors.
Quality and Safety
  • Complete position-relevant training in a timely manner
  • Ensure safety and quality considerations and requirements are proactively addressed and implemented in product design.
  • Address and manage in a timely fashion safety and quality problems raised by customers or staff.
  • Supports Quality System and Safety and Health Program by following standard operating procedures and work instructions.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or physics
  • At least 3 years of experience as a reliability engineer in a product-development environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment, as well as some familiarity with shop machinery used to fabricate prototype components.

Preferred or Desired:
  • An advanced technical degree and/or reliability certification, such as American Society of Quality (ASQ) Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE). Suitable work experience in the quality or reliability field in lieu of formal education may be considered.
  • Experience with reliability-centric software, not limited to, but including Weibull analysis, reliability diagrams, reliability prediction, and Accelerated Life Testing (ALT)
  • Programming experience, preferably Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience working in a regulated product development environment
